Leg and Foot Pain

Do you have leg or foot pain? It’s super common. Very few people never deal with it. There’s many causes. Almost all are mechanical in nature. Which means, it requires a mechanical solution. There’s no medication that corrects structural problems. There’s medication to cover up the pain though. That’s not what we do here. We find the problems and correct them. Here’s some common ones:

arthritic knee
arthritic knee

Foot pain. Fallen arches or too high arch. These usually follow hip and pelvis subluxation. Tipped forward pelvis causes flat feet (and low back pain). High arch from very straight pelvis. These people have no “butts”. Arch is high and can walk on outside of the shoes. Correction of both of these requires arch supports, exercises and adjustments of the feet and pelvis.

Knee pain: This one is harder. If you have bilateral knee pain, it’s unlikely that your knees are primary problem. You likely have fallen arches, which rotates your tibia or shin bone and stresses the knee. Arch supports again are the main tool to correct this.

One sided knee pain is usually caused by local trauma.  It helps to get the knee adjusted and use a knee brace.  Neoprene to start and if there’s instability if it’s advanced, a more structured knee support may be necessary.

Nutritional support of the cartilage is helpful.  Chondroitin, glucosamine mainly.  Avoid inflammatory foods, like simple carbs… rice, breads, pastas….

Hip pain: This isn’t common in people under 30.   By the time people turn 40 or 50, injuries sustained in childhood and teens starts to affect the cartilage. The main tool is nutritional as noted above and keeping that hip as mobile as possible by adjusting and exercise.

Radicular pain: Caused by subluxation of the lumbar spine and pelvis.  Either with disc bulges or herniations or arthritic changes.  These things irritate the nerves that go to your leg.  For instance, the inside of your foot is the L4 nerve.  The outside is the L5 nerve and bottom is the 1st sacral nerve.  These are all forms of sciatica.  Early on it can be numb, weak or painful.  Late stages makes your leg “give out” and feel weak.  This almost always comes with pretty bad low back pain. But, not always.

The solution to that one is mainly mechanical, correcting the nerve interference by adjusting the spine.  It’s also helpful to use supplementation to help the discs.  And, many times, weight is a factor.  The challenge there is, by the time you have sciatica, losing weight is made even harder by the inability to move well or exercise.

All of these problems can be handled in our office, except for severely advanced degenerative changes.  Sometimes, you just gotta have a hip or knee replacement.  To avoid this, start work on these problems early. That's what we do here. Prevent problems from getting that bad.
