5 of 33 Principles of Chiropractic.

The number one principle, or the major premise from which other governing principles are derived is this: A Universal Intelligence is in all matter and continually gives to it all its properties and actions, thus maintaining it in existence.

Principle number 2 is The Chiropractic Meaning of Life: The expression of this intelligence through matter.

#3 is The Unition of Intelligence and Matter.  Life is necessarily the union of intelligence and matter.

What’s driving the Intelligence?  That’s what is called Force.

Principle #4 is The Triune of Life.  Life is the triunity of having three necessary united factors, namely Intelligence, Force and Matter.

Principle #5 is  The Perfection of the Triune.  In order to have 100% Life, there must be 100% Intelligence, 100% Force and 100% Matter.

There’s 33 Principles in all.  Let’s spend a few minutes on these first 5. I promise you will learn something you didn't know and I’ll expound on the others another day.  This stuff right here, is the big idea.

The Big Idea is that the Force, animating us also permeates the universe.  There are Universal forces like gravity, the thing that holds the atoms of a rock together and give it it’s properties and shape and utility.  And there’s Innate Forces in living things. Innate Intelligence is the wisdom passed down historically, genetically, etc... that organizes you into 10 fingers, 10 toes and a couple of kidneys here, a heart there.... It's what make sa bird a bird and a human a human. It's the force that animates all living things, trees to birds to people.   It’s innate intelligence we are working with when restoring 100% life and function for people or animals in chiropractic.

Innate intelligence is far more powerful than any drug or remedy.  It’s behind the “placebo effect” known in science for things that happen when you give somebody water or a sugar pill and the patient cures themselves because they believed they were being cured by something.

The Big Idea, that we are created perfectly and have all we need, is very hard to keep in mind in our culture.  We are constantly being given the message that we are not perfect and we are broken down and we should expect disease and disability and the best we can do is invest in Long Term Care Insurance.  In our culture, we believe our loss of health is fixed and certain with age.  That’s the culture we live in.

I've seen every crazy condition cured. And, Ive seen some people with what you'd think was simple back pain, which should be completely amenable to chiropractic care and solution, who don't completely recover. Here's why. That 2nd principle that speaks of matter.  THAT’s the thing that age counts for.  Matter DOES deteriorate after being damaged from being used and pushed past the limits of adaptation.

Like a car is matter.  If you drive it long enough, it’s going to collect some dings, scratches, dents, the tranny might not be as tight as it used to be and after a hard bump, it might pull to the left.   Cars don’t have innate intelligence to heal from their injuries. Only living things have innate intelligence to help them survive and thrive in a hostile environment.  That doesn’t mean innate intelligence can recover the function of every stress thrown at it.  You or I can jump off a ledge, like 7 or 8 feet and maybe we break a heel bone, for instance.  Innate intelligence directs healing to lay down scar tissue, create new bone cells, seal up the gaps between the pieces…. So I can walk again.  But, that’s within the range of adaptation that a body has.  If we jumped out of a 10 story building window, the matter… a heel bone for instance, would be crushed beyond recognition, along with many other things that are beyond the ability for the matter and intelligence to adapt to.  That would likely result in our death as that’s an incredible universal force, gravity accelerating us at 32 feet per second and the sudden stop after 6 feet or so.

The body can heal from many things, but overwhelming trauma like that is beyond its ability.

Let’s talk about the in between stuff.  That which hurt but didn’t kill you.  Those are the things that often leave scar tissue in the matter that is our bodies.  That scar tissue or previous trauma, can make it harder for the matter to carry out the instructions of innate in healing.  So, over time, after injuring ourselves either overwhelmingly or less dramatically, but repeatedly, we collect areas of tissue that can’t respond to the messages.  That’s what’s called “Limitation of Matter”.

Here's another brief example: Chronic heartburn or reflux.  Early on, that may have simply been a matter of correcting the nerve impulses to the gastroesophageal sphincter from the T5 and 6 levels in the middle back.  If caught early, correcting the nerve impulses restores the strength of the sphincter contraction and keeps the acid in the stomach instead of regurgitation into the esophagus.  But, after years of acid on the esophagus and sphincter, the esophageal side of that sphincter gets damaged from the acid and the Innate Intelligence responds by laying down scar tissue on that side of the sphincter valve.  But, now the valve loses some ability to completely close.  It’s called pyloric stenosis.

So, two people with heartburn could walk in our office, we’d find the damage nerve and correct both, but the one with stenosis will always have a bit of heartburn. That’s limitation of matter.

By the way, some would say the body made a mistake and hardened that valve.  Not at all, just like high cholesterol, that’s no mistake, that’s protection. In this case, protecting those cells from acid and erosion prevents esophageal cancer.   The body never makes mistakes.

So, when we say things like ‘the body can heal from anything’.   That’s true in a general sense.  But, can THIS body right here heal from anything?  That depends on the matter.

Our job here is to turn on the power.  That innate intelligence to make sure it expresses through you.   But, limitation of matter is why we can never promise that any one limitation or injury or disease heals to complete satisfaction.  We can promise to remove interference.  But, healing is up to innate.  Not you or me.  And it is subject to the principle of the limitation of matter.

Matter then, is the stuff we are made of.  The same stuff a corpse is made of.  There’s no difference except there’s innate intelligence in the living but it has left the dead.  Innate intelligence directs adaptation to injuries to the best degree it can to preserve survival.  The matter needs to be protected as well as we can to allow innate to do its thing.

When I’m looking at x-rays, I’m looking at like the rings on a tree.  I can see the damage done that happened 5 years ago, 20 years ago and as a child. That’s one of the biggest determinants of how much health you get to express. If you have many limitations of matter, like disc injuries, bone spurs, old scoliosis etc… the Innate Intelligence that is in you, will always be 100% but expressing it through limited matter is the challenge.  The matter needs to be protected and put back in order to the degree we can for Innate Intelligence, our life force if you will, to get us back to expressing healthy.

It starts early.  If you want to have your best life, you need to make sure your innate intelligence can express 100%, and that means getting spines checked from birth to death. I’ve heard people say, my kids don’t have back problems.  They do.  They just don’t cause back pain.  They cause ear infections, sensitive stomachs, allergies, asthma, learning disorders, etc….  Back pain is not the signal for spine problems in kids.

For a healthy life, it’s simple.  You just keep your nerves working right, sleep, eat clean and run some oxygen through your cells.  We are designed perfectly for this.
